ICT Services

The Information and Communication Technology Services team is led by Steve Edwards. The ICT team is busy and growing, and is responsible for developing and maintaining the data communications network, connecting over 450 PCs. All office-based staff and Members are provided with e-mail and Internet access, and all Council Members have laptops, increasing the extent of service demands.  In addition, the Reprographics team (print room) has joined ICT Services.

Our mission statement promises:

"To ensure that ICT Services supports the Council in achieving it's Community and Corporate objectives by providing strategic, responsive, cost effective and high quality information and communication technology services and solutions."

ICT Services supports the Council in the following areas:

  • Implementation and co-ordination of the e-Government Programme.
    The e-Government programme is designed to make all Council services available electronically, 24/7, by 1 January 2006, thus creating a much needed new method of interactive service delivery.
  • Support of the Main Computer Systems, including -
    Planning, Housing Benefits, Finance, Payroll, BACS, Cash Receipting, Personnel, Land Charges, Leisure Management, Asset Management, Room Bookings, Civil Parking Enforcement, Building Control, Council Tax, Benefits, Business Rates, Electoral Registration and Environmental Health.
  • Website (http://www.shrewsbury.gov.uk/) and Intranet development including content management training for editors across the Council.
  • Help Desk support for approximately 450 desktop computers.
  • Facilitating the Political Process. Whether at Election Time or between elections the political process needs IT support. The website posts up-to-date notices, reports and minutes and Council publications are now available online. All members are provided with laptops and a council e-mail address.
  • Implementation and co-ordination of a Corporate Geographical Information System (GIS), incorporating a central Land and Property database compliant with British Standard BS7666.
  • Implementation of a corporate Electronic Records and Document Management System to satisfy the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Electronic Records and Document Management system including co-ordination, implementation and support.
  • Corporate Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) system including implementation and support to facilitate the resolution of 80% of customer enquiries at the front desk.
  • Development and support of the Voice and Data Communications Network including remote connections to The Music Hall, Old Market Hall, Weeping Cross Depot, Quarry Fitness Centre, Sports Village, Sports Centres (Grange, London Rd, Mary Webb, Monkmoor, Roman Rd) Meole Brace Golf Cource, Crematorium, Forest Way Alarm Centre, Ravens Meadow Car Park, Rowleys Huse Museum, Castle, Nettles Lane).
  • Corporate Email System support and development.
  • Network security, including anti-virus and content filtering.
  • New project co-ordination and consultancy.
  • Corporate Audio Visual Equipment support
  • Support and setup of the ICT Training Suite
  • Supporting Councillors in he development of their information technology skills.
  • New project co-ordination and consultancy.
  • Training and mentoring. We have links with local educational outlets to improve IT skills training.
  • Corporate ICT Procurement service.
  • Reprographics. The print room, graphic design and desktop publishing, print requisitioning, photocopying.

Telecommunications

We entered our telecommunications project for the Local Goverment Awards in March 2005.
