Public Conveniences

The Council provides public toilets at important locations across the borough, and keeps these clean and amenable to use.

All public conveniences are cleaned regularly. The frequency varies from site to site, and depends on the level of use. All public conveniences are cleaned at least once a day, but frequencies are modified to suit peaks of demand, such as the holiday season.

Some public toilets in holiday areas are closed outside the peak periods.

What if I find a toilet in a poor state?

Sadly, in spite of our best efforts, some of our toilets are occasionally damaged by graffiti or other vandalism. If you come across a toilet in a poor state, or are offended by anti-social behaviour in one of our toilets, please let us know by calling us on 01743 281155 or emailing us at general@shrewsbury.gov.uk.

We will remove obscene graffiti promptly, and other graffiti as soon as possible. If repairs are needed, we will arrange for these to be carried out promptly.

Do you have special facilities for disabled people?

All of our toilets have facilities for disabled people. These also have Radar facilities giving access at all times for disabled people who hold Radar keys. Radar keys can be obtained from the Council, click on the link to the left for further information.

The standards you can expect

We try to maintain the highest standards in our public conveniences. We monitor:

  • The number of sites provided
  • The percentage of these with disabled facilities and baby changing facilities

We report on our performance in these and other areas in our Best Value Performance Plan every April, and also publish our targets for improving our performance.
