Legionella - The Control of Legionella Bacteria in water systems
The Borough Council is responsible for the management, monitoring and implementation of measures to prevent Legionnaire's disease within the water supply to all it's buildings. This is in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance, L8 "The control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems" under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
We have had water hygiene risk assessments carried out by Hertel Services Environmental Division. These risk assessments cover the mains water supply, stored cold water and hot water services. These assessments are carried out every three years.
Hertel Services also carry out regular inspections and testing in line with the the Approved Code of Practice, L8. These are carried out every six months.
Property Services maintains records which detail the results of these inspections, tests and checks and the dates that they were carried out. These records also contain information relating to remedial works that have been carried out. These records have to be retained for a minimum of two years after the date of the inspection or works carried out.
Any queries relating directly to this should be passed to Brian Youle, Maintenance Monitoring Officer whose email is brian.youle@shrewsbury.gov.uk .
