Footpath Diversions
Applications for the amendment of a public right of way following planning approval may be submitted to Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council. If the request is considered to be reasonable, an Order can be made under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 or, in some cases, the Highways Act 1980.

The Borough Council charges a fee of £1417.50 for this service, which covers the cost of the site survey, drawing of plans, legal procedures and public advertisement.
It should not be assumed that the Order would be automatically confirmed; objections may be received and alternative routes may be proposed.
Objections can make this a lengthy exercise, 12 months or more. When a compromise cannot be reached the case may finally be referred to The Planning Inspectorate for a decision.
Planning approval does not entitle the developer to remove or obstruct a public right of way. Doing so may result in prosecution and will affect any future sale of the property.
