New Applications Process

Changing to 1APP

Due to new Government Legislation from 6th April 2008, the standard planning application form (1APP) will replace all existing types of planning application forms (except applications for minerals) within England, and will become the only legal way of submitting a planning application.

For your information the following PDF file is an example of the Householder 1APP form. There are numerous forms dependent on the type of application you are applying for.

1APP Form

Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council went live with 1APP forms on 3rd January 2008. Applications may be submitted on our existing planning application forms up until the end of March 2008.

We will be actively encouraging applicants to use the 1App form on-line through the Planning Portal http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/. There will still be an option to complete and submit paper copies of an application form however bear in mind that the intelligent nature of the forms should mean it is quicker and easier to complete the forms online because you will only be asked questions that are relevant to the type of application you are submitting.

Printable (pdf) versions of the 1APP forms can be downloaded from the Planning Portal website at:

The Benefits of 1APP and Submitting Applications Online

A simpler, more transparent planning process
Familiarisation with just one form for all application types and all Councils
Standard information (e.g. your address and contact information) so it does not need to be re-entered for future applications
A better chance of submitting a valid planning application
The electronic form determines the correct planning consent required
1APP allows the completion of a single online application form for multiple types of consent i.e. Listed Building Consent alongside a Full Planning Application.
A tool to calculate the fee payable
The option to pay online direct to the authority
Submitting documents in pdf format allows a measuring tool to be added helping the LPA to process your application swiftly and electronically

Validation Checklist

There will also be new criteria introduced, which will clarify what information must be submitted with a planning application for it to be valid. This validation criteria will be split into national and local requirements. We are currently working on creating the checklist; awaiting further information from the Government and liasing with the other Shropshire districts on the best way forward

As further updates are released on 1App and the validation Checklist these will be made available to view on the planning page on our website.
