Policy Statement

Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council wants to protect and enhance the historic environment of its citizens, maximise the heritage's potential as a means to economic regeneration and promote Shrewsbury as a tourist destination.
 
This is achieved by:
  • ensuring that new developments are sympathetic and appropriate to the special character of out towns, villages and countryside
  • promoting architecture and design of the highest quality throughout the borough
  • ensuring the traditional maintenance of the boroughs historic fabric through grant schemes and thereby securing the towns economic growth through tourism
  • raising the profile of Shrewsbury as a historic town and borough
