Moving Home

When moving home there are a lot of factors to consider. Whether you are buying or renting, selling or letting, there are many websites available to answer your queries and make the process run a little smoother.

The Directgov website is a comprehensive source of information for anybody looking to move home.  The site provides in-depth advice covering topics such as 'Home Improvement', 'Money Matters' and 'Local Environment' in addition to guidance about the actual buying/selling/renting/letting processes.

More advice is available from the BBC website.  Their Property section also contains information for buyers and sellers, including house price statistics and a mortgage calculator.

When you have moved into your new home, the Homes section of the BBC site can also help you with DIY and interior design.

It is also important to notify the Council of your change of address.  Please see our Notifying the Council section or complete our online Change of Address notification form.

If you are planning to move home, you may also be planning to change jobs, if so, you may find our Finding Employment section useful.

Home Information Packs

Properties marketed for sale from 14 December 2007 in England and Wales will need a Home Information Pack (HIP), which includes a home energy rating.

The Pack includes an Energy Performance Certificate, containing advice on how to cut carbon emissions and fuel bills. Also included are documents such as a sale statement, searches and evidence of title.

Currently, any property that where already on the market on the relevant commencement date (i.e. 1 August 2007 for sales of homes with four or more bedrooms, 10 September 2007 for those with three or more bedrooms and 14 December for all properties) does not need to have a Home Information Pack.

At this stage no such date has been set when all properties that are on the market will be required to have a Home Information Pack.

For more information please visit the Home Information Pack website.
