Homelessness and Housing Advice

The Role of the Council

This section contains housing advice, information and guidance to people who are homeless or may be threatened with homelessness.

Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is committed to preventing homelessness by giving prompt and robust housing advice to help people stay in their homes. When prevention is not possible, we will help people find suitable alternative accommodation in either private rented or social housing.

We can also refer people to an independent mediation service or specialist support organisations to help them manage their situation.

The Council's Homelessness and Housing Advice Service is run by the Housing Options Team based at the Guildhall. If you are homeless or likely to become homeless within 28 days you should contact the Housing Options Team as soon as possible.

As part of our Homelessness Strategy we have produced a comprehensive directory of housing related advice services in Shropshire. The guide is published in partnership with the Shropshire Housing Officers Group and can be found on their web-page. www.shropshire.gov.uk/homelessness.nsf
