Flooding
Shrewsbury has been subject to occasional flooding for many years.
While the majority of the Borough is well above danger level, there are some low lying areas near the river that are affected by abnormally high river levels.

Flooding Alerts
Flooding alerts have now been added to the Local Alert service for Shrewsbury. You can register for the Local Alert service, or if you already receive Local Alerts you can sign in to opt to receive flooding alerts.
Flooding alerts are sent by email and SMS and provide emergency updates on flooding and access in Shrewsbury Town Centre. Please note that small changes to flood levels are not sent.

Flood Defense Scheme

Following an unusually frequent occurrence of flooding over the last few years, the Environment Agency has constructed a flood defence scheme for Shrewsbury.
In February 2004, the river level rose enough to require the use of the new flood barriers.
While the river did not get high enough to test the barriers to full capacity - it was good to see them in action.
See below for pictures of the barriers.
