Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit through your bank/building society is the cheapest and most convenient way to pay your Council Tax or Business Rates.

Direct Debit logo Direct Debit is the Council's preferred method of payment. Direct Debit is an automated method of paying your bills. The Council will arrange for your Bank or Building Society to transfer your payments directly to the Council.

Why pay by Direct Debit?

It saves you money on postage and stationery.

It avoids travelling expenses.

You do not have to complete a new form every year, unless you change Bank or Building Society or move house.

You will be notified at least ten working days before an amount is debited.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time.

All payments are governed by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

The Direct Debit Guarantee:

  • This Guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and security of the Scheme is monitored and protected by your own Bank or Building Society.
  • If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council will notify you at least 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
  • If an error is made by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council or your Bank or Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
  • You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.

If you currently pay by any other method and wish to change to Direct Debit you may print out the form below and then post the completed form back to the Council.If you are unable to print the Direct Debit Instruction and are unable to visit in person, please contact the Council Tax or Business Rates Section for a form.
