AWC FAQ
When will my waste be collected?
The day of the week for both collections will be the same.
Why are you doing this?
We need to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and encourage householders to recycle more. Around 50% of all Councils in Britain collect waste in this way including all other councils in Shropshire. These areas have much higher rates of recycling and less need for landfill sites.
Won't my bin smell?
No. There will not be a problem if you contain your refuse properly, keep your bin clean and out of direct sunlight. Odours are generally associated with organic waste. This type of waste should be composted (if suitable) or bagged before you put it in your bin for disposal.
Can I get help with my collections?
The smaller blue box aims to make it easier to recycle the heaviest material (paper). We can provide assisted collections for households with a medical reason. Also, we can supply accessories for the boxes such as lids, trolleys, and wheels that can make it easier to recycle more, call 01743 281155 for more details.
What if I produce too much waste?
If you recycle and compost as much as possible you will have much less waste. On those occasions where you still have excess waste you can take it to the Household Recycling Centre in Battlefield, which accepts all types of household waste free of charge.
What happens over Christmas?
For two weeks over the Christmas period we will run more frequent refuse collections. See your calendar, or visit http://www.shrewsbury.gov.uk/ for more details and dates.
