Hazardous Waste
Waste is hazardous when it contains properties that might make it harmful to our health or the environment. The European Commission's directive controlling the management of such waste is defined on the basis of a hazardous waste list. Many of these wastes are already regarded as 'special waste' in the UK.
SABC do not collect any hazardous wastes from any commercial businesses.
It is your duty to ensure that NO hazardous waste is placed out for collection with your usual (non-hazardous) commercial refuse.

Recent Revisions
The European Commission has recently revised its list of hazardous waste and incorporated it into the European Waste Catalogue. This revised list includes a number of waste streams not previously considered to be hazardous, for example fluorescent tubes, television sets, batteries and computer monitors.
The Landfill Amendment Regulations, which came into force on 16th July 2004 bans co-disposal of waste to landfill. This means you must separate your hazardous waste from your normal non-hazardous waste. These changes are positive steps towards reducing risks to human health and the environment.
