The main objectives of sports development

In 2001 the Sports Development Officer, with consultation from other parties wrote a 5 year development plan identifying the following objectives:

1. To provide participation and coaching opportunities for 4-18yr olds in sport.
2. To provide suitable opportunities for all people with an interest in sport within the communities of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council.
3. To provide pathways to support transition from participation to performance and excellence.
4. To help provide and support a co-ordinated programme of coach recruitment, education and development.
5. Raise the profiles of Sports Development in Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council.
6. To manage and co-ordinate sports development, provision and opportunities in the Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough.

The Sports development Manager works with the local community (with a special focus on young people) to encourage sports opportunities in the district. This work is varied and diverse however the following key areas/programmes are priority at present.

• Monitoring and evaluation
