'Active Kids' Programme

Shrewsbury Leisure provides a wide and varied programme of activities throughout the year. Over the next pages this booklet will give you a detailed programme of activities concentrated around school holiday periods.

'Active Kids'

'Active Kids', run throughout all LEA holiday periods and gives parents the opportunity to send their children to any one of our facilities safe in the knowledge that we provide a secure environment, with friendly qualified staff, all of whom have been through a vigorous training and vetting procedure.

All activities are designed to stimulate your child both physically, socially and mentally, with activities which are as varied as arts and crafts, adventure games, netball, football, unihoc, badminton, tennis and much more.

Extended Days

Our 'Active Kids' programme normally operates from 8.45am to 5.15pm. However, we have had numerous suggestions that we operate slightly longer for those working parents who work further afield. As such we will operate an extended day where children can be dropped off at 8.15am and be collected by 5.45pm all for an additional charge of £2.00.

Special Offer

If you book your child at one of the centres for the whole week you will get five days for the price of four. This only applies to Monday to Friday bookings and cannot be carried over to any other week and must be attended at the centre of original purchase. Extended day does not apply however, you can include your child on the extended day programme for an additional charge of £2.00 per day.

Summer Outreach Schemes

'Active Kids' will run an outreach scheme throughout the summer holidays (only). These are run at local community centres in and around the Shrewsbury area. The scheme will run for a week at each venue. At this time the venues have not confirmed their permission to operate from their venue. Details will be made available prior to the summer holiday period.

Away Days

Throughout the year during the school holidays we are investigating the possibility of organising away days for the children to local cultural attractions such as countryside walks, fun play sessions at the Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre and picnics in the Quarry, museums etc. Details will be available prior to each holiday period.

'Active Kids' Sports Development

'Active Kids' Sports development activities will have the same developmental benefits as our normal activity programme, however, they will have the additional benefit of developing sports specific skills through well-qualified staff. They will concentrate on giving the children the core basic skills needed in that sport and hopefully will encourage your child to go on to better things. Information will be available on local clubs with junior programmes on request. The sports covered in this year's Summer Programme will be Cricket, Trampolining, Tennis, Angling and Golf. Ages for all courses 8 years to 14 years of age. Those youngsters taking part in Cricket, Trampolining, Tennis and Angling will receive a complimentary junior swim. For the children taking golf coaching they will receive one complimentary Family Pitch and Putt.
