Parish of Westbury
Westbury Parish lies west of the Borough and borders Wales. It has a number of settlements including Westbury, the largest, Halfway House, Yockleton, Stoney Stretton, Vennington, Vron Gate and Westley.
Westbury has a good range of services, including a doctor's surgery, primary school and post office/shop. It has seen a considerable amount of housing estate development recently.
Halfway House is a dispersed settlement, almost merging with Wattlesborough Heath, and lying effectively in two parts. There has been some new housing opposite Bank Villa, with a few plots still remaining undeveloped.
Yockleton lies on the B4386 some 10 kms west of Shrewsbury. A new housing development has recently been completed at Brookside Gardens. Facilities have declined in Yockelton, with the closure of its school, but there is a village hall, church and a part-time post office.
Nox and Westley are both small and relatively isolated settlements. Ford Heath is a dispersed settlement approximately 1 km north east of Yockleton and Vennington and Vron Gate are both agricultural settlements set in the Area of Special Landscape Character, occupying sheltered locations on the Long Mountain. Vennington in particular has a number of attractive buildings, some of which are listed. None of these hamlets have any community facilities.
