Ford village lies on the north side of the A458 Shrewsbury to Welshpool road, about eight kms west of Shrewsbury town centre. The majority of the electorate live in Ford village, with the remainder living in the outlying settlements of Chavel, the Welshpool Road, Shoothill and parts of Ford Heath.

Much of the village of Ford is old and included many interesting Listed Buildings. The older part of the village is within a designated Conservation Area. A Council-built estate of 70 houses was erected during the late 1940s and 35 flats and bungalows for the elderly were built in the late 1960s.

Developments just completed and the establishment of the area school in Ford, has led to traffic problems in the village, in particular, access/egress on to the A458. The Parish Council believes (with local backing) that a speed limit should be installed on the A458 at this point, and further, that there should not be any more development in the village during the plan period except for sensitive infilling and that the village envelope should not be enlarged.
