Parish of Bicton

Bicton is a rural Parish of 1863 hectares (4604 acres). The two main villages are Bicton and the southern half of Montford Bridge. There are further small settlements along Calcott Lane, Preston Montford Lane and Shepherd's Lane between the B4380 and A458. The Parish boundary is formed by the River Severn to the north, the Parish of Ford to the south west and the urban fringes of Shrewsbury to the south east.

Bicton Village is close to, but separated from, Shrewsbury by open countryside, which is also designated as an Area of Special Landscape Character along the River Severn Valley (no longer contained within the local plan). This enables the village to enjoy a pleasing rural environment.

The Parish is reasonably well served by public transport, but has only limited shopping facilities. It has a school, church, garage, village hall, bowling green and two public houses. Preston Montford Field Studies Centre and the Shropshire and Mid-Wales Hospice are both situated within the Parish.
