Parish of Berrington

Cross Houses is the largest village in the Parish and is situated on the A458 Bridgnorth road some six kms south-east of Shrewsbury. It has a range of facilities which include a shop with post office, petrol filling station, a village hall, two public houses and the Hospital Trust headquarters. An "affordable" housing scheme was constructed opposite the hospital site adjacent to the A458 on open land outside the then development boundary of Cross Houses at Berrington Green (now Holcroft Way). The development of some 54 dwellings was constructed in 1992 before current Government guidelines concerning such schemes were introduced. Strictly speaking, the development is too large and serves the needs of the wider rather than strictly local community.

Berrington is a small village one and a half kms west of Cross Houses. It has very few facilities comprising a church and village hall. The primary school has since closed and permission has been granted for its conversion into a dwelling. Berrington has seen some recent new development on a site allocated in the 1992 Rural Area Local Plan and residential barn conversions at Manor Farm.
