Council Webcam Hits Flood In, But Where Next?

Release Date:
25 January 2008
In the last 7 days, people have clocked up a record breaking 35,000 visits to www.shrewsbury.gov.uk/webcam to see webcam views of Shrewsbury's Welsh Bridge & Frankwell Quay.
BBC Midlands Today program recommended the webcams as the best way to monitor river levels during the recent flooding in Shrewsbury.

These webcams have become so popular that members of the public have requested more views from around the town. From suggestions already received, a clear favourite would be the Square, but also more views of the river. But if a new webcam is to be provided, the Council is keen for residents to suggest locations for it.

There is an online poll at www.shrewsbury.gov.uk where people can select their favourite from a shortlist of locations or submit their own ideas.

Steve Edwards, ICT and Customer Services Manager said:

"Webcams are a great way for people to see the best scenes in the town and monitor river levels. We've received great feedback since the webcams have been online, but more recently people have been suggesting additional locations."

"We think an online poll is the best way for the public to have their say on future camera locations. Who better to decide future webcam views than the people who would be using it?!"

You can have your say and vote for your favourite webcam location by visiting www.shrewsbury.gov.uk and following the links.
