Violin virtuoso Madeleine Easton will be at the Lion Hotel on the 15th August to help recreate the visit of the maestro Paganini to Shrewsbury back in 1833.
In his lifetime, Paganini achieved the equivalent of rock star status as a result of his spectacular playing and his arrival in Shrewsbury caused quite a stir.
Madeleine hails from Sydney where she studied at the Conservatorium of Music.
Upcoming performances include a performance at London’s Wigmore Hall, and during the summer she will be soloist and director of a new Paganini festival in the UK.
Speaking about the concert, SABC Arts Officer Maggie Love commented:
“I’m delighted that Madeleine has agreed to come to Shrewsbury to help us recreate this historic concert. Her international reputation is growing and I can promise an exciting night.”
Madeleine will be joined by soprano Claire Surmans and Gary Cooper on piano.
The musicians will be performing pieces that Paganini himself performed at the Lion Hotel some 175 years ago.
Concert goers have the option of dining prior to the performance, as their predecessors would have done 175 years ago.
Tickets for the dinner and concert are £40 or £15 for the concert only.
The dinner is 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm. The concert begins at 8pm.
