As Shrewsbury officially takes on the mantle of ‘cycling town’, SABC is helping to encourage more people to try cycling. With support from the Leisure & Community Development, Sustainability and Environmental Health sections of the Council, the UK’s most renowned social enterprise, ‘A Company of Cyclists’ will be in the Quarry Park on Sat 28th June from 12 noon - 7 p.m.
Their 'Get Cycling' Roadshow is fantastic fun and a great way to bring the pro-cycling message to the town. Applicable to all age groups, from very small children through to 70-plus-year-olds they give the general public the opportunity to try out a range of both conventional and more specialised cycles like tag-alongs, tandems and unicycles and get advice on cycling.
It forms part of the Teenage Kicks Youth Festival, on Saturday 28th June from 12 noon to 7 p.m. They’ll be joined by thousands of young people, a live battle of the bands, plus activities such as painting, rock climbing walls, football tournaments, martial arts demonstrations. In addition to further reinforce young peoples awareness of environmental issues, Shropshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre will be giving away free low energy lightbulbs. There will also be an Animal Face painter and local charity Scrappies making art with junk to educate the kids about waste.
James Thompson, SABC Sustainability & Recycling Officer says “We hope that this event will build upon our success with the Sports Village and enable people to become enthused about cycling, in a safe and supportive environment. It’s great timing for the town with the exciting announcement of cycling town status for Shrewsbury just recently. SABC is keen to encourage cycling to promote fitness and also to reduce air pollution and showcase our commitment to environmental excellence.”
So if you’re a teenager or even if your not, come on down to the Quarry Park on Saturday 28th June and unleash the big kid within you….
