Shrewsbury's Growth Support

Release Date: 10 December 2007

This week the Government has announced that Government funding will be given to Shrewsbury to help support the delivery of housing and associated infrastructure, as part of the Government’s drive to deliver housing. Shrewsbury and Atcham has been awarded £1.83million capital and £140,000 revenue for 2008/09 with a further indicative allocation of £3.39million capital and £196,000 revenue for the following two years. This success follows a submission bid by officers from Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and Shropshire County Council.

Councillor Peter Nutting, Leader of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, commented: "This is great news for Shrewsbury and reflects the importance of the Borough as a major growth point in the rural West Midlands. The money will help to boost the rising levels of investment already taking place"

Councillor Malcolm Pate, Leader of Shropshire County Council, commented: "I welcome these funds to support investment in Shrewsbury's infrastructure to support jobs, housing and environmental improvement."
