River Improvement Begins

Work is to start on 28 July 2008 for a period of up to two weeks on deepening the channel in two areas where the depth of the river has reduced. The work will involve no removal of material and has been agreed following extensive consultation with the Environment Agency to ensure there is minimal impact on the river environment and nature. The areas are by Victoria Quay and Benbow Quay and the work will ensure a navigation channel is maintained during low level river conditions.
The work is being carried out by Enterprise on a contract from Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and has the support of the new Shrewsbury River Partnership.
