New E-Mail Reminder Service To Help Residents Recycle Even More

Release Date: 07/11/2007

Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council are undertaking a unique project to help make it easier for residents to participate in the new alternate weekly collection scheme through the provision of e-mail reminder bulletins to residents. Shrewsbury and Atcham BC is the first ever authority that GreenBoxDay.co.uk have worked with to provide e-mail reminders about recycling and refuse collections to the public.

Users simply need to supply their postcode and an email address and select how many days before the collection they would like their reminder to be sent. GreenBoxDay.co.uk will then continue to send reminders before each collection so the correct boxes and bins can be put out on the correct days.

The reminders will initially contain a list of what materials go in each box or bin to help people start to get used to the new system but this is being expanded to included general recycling information and tips.

In the longer term the project may expand to a text message reminder service also.  GreenBoxDay hope to work with other councils to promote this refuse and recycling service to grow the service to help benefit people throughout the UK.

Commenting on the new project, Judith Williams, S.A.B.C.s Recycling & Sustainability Portfolio Holder said,

"SABC are delighted to be utilising this new tool to provide additional services to local residents without costing the council taxpayer. This supports the Councils two main aspirations of environmental excellence and low council tax. Further we are delighted to be supporting the development of a local business and this is underpinning the national drive towards e-governance.

Calendars and literature have been provided to all residents but some residents will find this is a useful tool to augment these. We hope that it will help make the service even easier to use and so ultimately boost participation and yield and thus lead to higher rates of recycling in the area. I would urge residents to make use of the greenboxday.co.uk reminder service to help them remember their new collection days and if they have any further queries visit the Councils website or email recycling@shrewsbury.gov.uk
