Darwin Geo Garden Ideas on Show

Release Date: 16 April 2008

The plans to produce a lasting legacy of the Darwin bicentenary take another step forward when the three short-listed design teams bring their ideas to the Darwin Shopping Centre for a public exhibition.

It's an opportunity for the public to see the proposals before the judging panel selects the winning design.

The Darwin and Pride Hill Shopping Centre management has kindly provided a unit on the entry level opposite Marks & Spencer for the display of models and images of the plans. The exhibition opens to the public from 2.00 p.m. on Monday 21 April. The exhibition will then be open from 10 till 4 each day until 26 April.

As well as reflecting Darwin's ideas, the teams have been asked to produce a design that highlights Shropshire's diverse geological story. Geology was Darwin’s first formal science and Shropshire has rocks from ten of the twelve geological periods.

The selected design will be installed on Mardol Quay Gardens alongside the Welsh Bridge in time for Darwin’s birthday on 12 February 2009.
