Darwin Centre Helps Promote Environmental Issues

The Darwin Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury has teamed up with Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Councils Sustainability Section to help raise the profile of green issues in the town. 

On Friday 15th Feb from 10 am to 4 pm the Darwin Shopping Centre will be hosting an exhibition on environmental initiatives with information on everything from how to start a compost heap, to local bus timetables to how to install solar panels. The exhibition will take place near the Ravens Meadows entrance to the Mall, by the bottom of TK Maxx. 

The event will include stalls by various local groups such as: -

  • Ruralscapes – sample tasty local food
  • Energy Efficiency Advice Centre – free low energy lightbulbs
  • SABC Recycling – advice on your local recycling services
  • Master Composters Network – discounted compost bins
  • Shropshire Wildlife Trust – information of biodiversity
  • SCC Sustainable Transport Unit – advice on green travel
  • Shrewsbury FoE – campaigning on local green issues
  • Harvest Help – raising awareness of African development

POUND LAND have kindly donate masses of free seeds to give away to the public to help encourage them to make good use of their compost and enhance their gardens. 

June Meagher, from the Darwin Shopping Centre say “as part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility we have been offering free exhibition space to local charities and good causes.  We are delighted to be able to help raise awareness of these important issues.”

Cllr. Mrs Judith Williams speaking for the Council says, “we are grateful for the support & co-operation of the Darwin Shopping Centre.  We hope people will come along on the day and learn more about the how they can help protect the environment.”
