Councillor Brian Rees

It is with regret that we advise you of the death on Saturday, 10 May 2008 of Councillor Brian Rees (67).

Councillor Rees was elected to the Council in 2002 to represent the Pimhill Ward and was held in high regard by his constituents and Parish Councils.  He had a particular interest in planning and health and safety issues and was a well respected member of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council.

During 2007/2008, he was Portfolio Holder with responsibility for ICT & Customer Services, Personnel and Member Development.  He was Chairman of the Joint Health and Safety Consultative Committee and diligently served on the Development Control & Environmental Protection Committee, Licensing and Safety Committee, Joint Personnel Consultative Committee and the Development Plan Advisory Group. Councillor Rees continued to he duties

SABC Council Manager, Geraint Morgan commented:
“Above all, Brian was a very "human" being.  His knowledge of life was extensive and was shared by friends and colleagues alike and always with a sense of humour.
His enthusiasm and experience will be sadly missed by staff and fellow Councillors.”

Staff commented that Councillor Rees continued to undertake his duties in spite of his illness.

Shrewsbury UNISON branch Secretary, Jo Messer said  " Brian worked very closely with the unions during the equalisation of the pay structure and as chairman of the joint health and safety consultative committee. During which he showed he had the best interests of staff at heart and was always fair and consistent. He had a great warmth and empathy about him and he will be sadly missed."
