Work has now started to clean up contaminated land in a number of residential properties in Minsterley Road, Pontesbury. A specialist contractor, VHE Construction of Leeds, has been appointed to undertake the works.
The work involves the excavation of contaminated soil and it’s subsequent disposal to an approved site. The contractor will be laying a special separating membrane after the excavation, which will then be topped with a layer of clean topsoil to a depth of 450mm to 600mm.
Due to the sensitivity of the scheme, residents will be remaining in their properties during the works. All works will be carried out in strict accordance with current Health, Safety and Welfare legislation and all risks will be managed.
While it is a requirement that those working on the site who are in direct contact with the contaminated soils wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, risks to residents will be minimised by excluding them from the work areas and dampening down soils if dust becomes apparent.
VHE are committed to minimising the disturbance to local residents and the environment and the works should be completed in about 10 weeks.
