From 7 April 2008, changes are being made to the current Housing Benefit system, which introduces new rules relating to the how the benefit is calculated and paid.
Landlords are invited to attend a meeting about the changes on 3 March 2008.
Local Housing Allowance, is a new way of working out claims for Housing Benefit, for tenants who rent their home from a private landlord and claim on or after 7 April 2008. A key change to the scheme will be that, tenants in receipt of Local Housing Allowance will usually be paid direct and will be responsible for paying their rent to their Landlord. The aim of Local Housing Allowance is to make the system fairer, easier and provide customers more choice and responsibility as to how they spend their income.
The National Landlords Association – Shrewsbury Branch of Landlords next meeting is Monday, 3 March 2008, in Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council’s Chamber, The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury from 6 pm - 7.45 pm. Guest Speakers from Housing Benefit and the Rent Service will be giving presentations on the new Local Housing Allowance and how it affects Landlords. There will also be time for any questions.
