Where do the regulations apply?
Parking regulations apply in many areas, both on street and off street. Parking restrictions are shown on signs and road markings. In many historic town centres and conservation areas, the Goverment will have given permission to the Highway Authority to dispense with some road markings. However, you will find additional signage has had to be put into place instead.
Pavements and verges are part of the public highway and are covered by any yellow lines on the road beside them. So if you park on a pavement or verge to avoid parking on yellow lines, you will still be contravening the regulations and a Penalty Charge Notice may still be issued.
Some examples of illegal parking are:
- Not displaying your ticket in a pay and display car park
- Overstaying the time period in a limited time area
- Parking on yellow lines outside the designated hours
- Parking in loading bays or during loading bans
- Not parking within marked bays
- Parking in a blue badge area without displaying a blue badge
A parking ticket is correctly known as a Penalty Charge Notice or PCN.
All signs conform to the Department for Transport standard and you may find this link to the Highway Code useful.
Shropshire County Council as the Highways Authority determines what restrictions are put in place. ParkRight enforces the restrictions that are set by Shropshire County Council.
