New National Concessionary Travel Scheme 2008
A new national concessionary travel scheme came into operation on 1st April 2008, which gives senior citizens and disabled residents a pass for all local bus services all over England (not just in Shrewsbury and Atcham).

I currently claim travel tokens/rail card - can I change to the new nationwide bus pass?
If you have not claimed a concession for this current financial year (1st April 2008 - 31st March 2009), you can apply for the new nationwide bus pass. Please note, if you have collected your travel tokens or rail card for this financial year then your next opportunity for claiming the new nationwide bus pass would be 1st April 2009.
When will I receive my new nationwide bus pass?
You should receive your new nationwide bus pass within 5 working days from application.
Can I use the new nationwide bus pass on any bus service to anywhere in the country?
Your new nationwide bus pass will be valid on any local bus service throughout England. E.g. If you visit a relative in Cornwall, you will be able to use the local bus services in that area. If a relative visits you in Shrewsbury, he/she will be able to use the local bus services in Shrewsbury. You will not be able to use your pass to purchase National Express tickets.
Will I be able to use my new nationwide bus pass before 9.30am?
The new pass entitles you to free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England from 1st April 2008. Off-peak hours are 9.30am until 11pm Monday to Friday and all day weekends and bank holidays. (In Shrewsbury only, travel is permitted after 11pm.)
What if I change my address?
If you change your address at any time, please contact Customer Services on 01743 281000.
How long will my new bus pass be valid for?
If you are claiming because your are over 60 years of age, your new bus pass will be valid for approximately 4 years from date of issue. If you are claiming on disability grounds, your new bus pass will be valid for 1 year from date of issue.
Can I claim any other concession as I am unable to use public transport?
Yes, travel tokens are available to disabled people. Please telephone Customer Services on 01743 281000 for further information. If you do not yet claim a concession and you think you may be eligible, please go to the following link for details of our current scheme
Do I need to provide a photograph for the new nationwide bus pass?
No. When you call into our Customer Services Reception at the Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, we will take your photograph for you. This is then downloaded directly into our concessionary travel system.
I have not yet received my new nationwide bus pass even though I applied a while ago?
If you have submitted your application and you have not yet received your pass, please ring Customer Services on 01743 281000 and one of our Customer Advisors will look into it for you. Alternatively you can email customerservices@shrewsbury.gov.uk
