Crime Prevention

The crimereduction.gov.uk website is seen as the No.1 online information resource for the crime reduction community.  The website features an 'Ideas Exchange' that contains a database of ideas and initiatives on all crime reduction topics as well as case studies of initiatives that have been put into action around the country.
Another feature of the site is a range of Crime Reduction Toolkits aimed at providing advice and guidance specific to each type of crime.

The Home Office website contains a Crime & Victims section that offers advice for people that have been the victim of crime.  The section also details the trend for each type of crime, whether it is rising or falling, and highlights the initiatives that the Government is undertaking to tackle each type of crime.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes operate throughout the UK, and are great examples of communities working together to prevent crime.  On the National Neighbourhood Watch Association website, you can check to see if there are any schemes operating in your area, and if there isn't one already, you can find information about setting one up.  The site also outlines the benefits of Neighbourhood Watch schemes and provides community information factsheets.

Crime statistics are available on the http://www.crimestatistics.org.uk/ website.  British Crime Survey data (which some people believe to be more accurate as they take into account unreported crime) is available on the site, and Police recorded crime figures can be accessed by postcode or region.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions regarding community safety, please email us at community.safety@shrewsbury.gov.uk, or have your say about community safety in our forums at www.shrewsbury.gov.uk/forum.
