Leisure and Tourism
This section tells you about what you can do when you are visiting Shrewsbury.
It also provides a reference for residents on all the leisure facilities in and around the Borough.
You can read more about facilities and attractions in Shrewsbury on the Shrewsbury Tourism website.

The town has a wealth of timber framed and Georgian houses, steep narrow streets and little alleys gathered for protection within a great loop of the River Severn.
The original Castle (which doubtless replaced the Saxon fortress) was built by Roger de Montgomery under the order of William the Conqueror and was rebuilt and enlarged by Edward II.
Its population is a little under 100,000 and the rural area covers some 210 square miles. It can be described as "typical English countryside at its best".
The Stiperstones, the Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge and the Wrekin are ancient hills surrounding Shrewsbury.
Buildwas Abbey and the ruins of Haughmond Abbey are of notable historic interest and there are many cottages of mellowed brick or plaster with half timbering or built of sandstone.
Many of the Parish Churches show a growth of architecture from Norman days and contain much of interest. North of Shrewsbury lies the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury (1403) where Henry IV defeated the rebellious Barons of the Welsh Marches and Hotspur was killed.
