Rural Rambles
Four beautiful wildlife and history walks in the Shrewsbury countryside
All walks waymarked with Rural Rambles arrows which are burgundy in colour. The key points with numbers on the maps and in the text are not marked on the ground!
Take a walk back through 12,000 years of history with this series of self-guided trails. In Shrewsbury a combination of natural events and man's activities have left a unique pattern of countryside in and around the town. Explore ancient landscapes of trees, hedgerows, meres, fens, and wildflower meadows. Follow in the foot-steps of our forebears past old bridges, mills and canals, in the company of a fascinating variety of wildlife- kingfishers, otters, badgers and bats to name but a few. And all within sight of Shrewsbury spires.
A general map is given below showing each of the walks in the context of the town.
Please note. All of the sketch maps given are for guidance only. An Ordnance Survey Map Explorer 1:25000 no 241, Shrewsbury, especially for walk 4, is needed to get the best out of the walks.
