About the Council
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council came into being in 1974, when as a result of Local Government Reorganisation, Shrewsbury Borough Council merged with Atcham Rural District Council. The Council duly adopted armorial bearings which consist of three lions' heads, together with an outline of Atcham Bridge. The words "Floreat Salopia" appear on the armorial bearings, which quite literally mean "May Shrewsbury Flourish".
In March 2004 the Council relocated to a new site on the side of the River Severn at Frankwell.
