Shrewsbury Green Festival
A Green Festival has been held in Shrewsbury at the Shropshire Wildlife Trust on Abbey Forgate for a number of years, but it is only recently that it has started to grow to become a major event in Shrewsbury's calendar. Its a massive celebration of all things green, with live music, organic food, gardening tips, solar power, a falconry display, a farmers market, and arts and crafts all under one roof.
This year's festival included exciting live musical performances from the ''as seen on TV'' Caribbean Sunshine Steel Band. The band recently appeared on celebrity Paul O'Grady's chat show.
The world's largest motorised tin can also made an appearance at this year's festival. Measuring two metres high and three metres long, the super-sized can has made visits around the town aiming to encourage local people to think twice about the rubbish they throw away.
Its all helping to raise awareness of environmental issues, aiding in creating a a reputation for the town as an 'environmental centre of excellence'. The event is organised as a partnership between Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and the Shropshire Wildlife Trust. The aspiration is to showcase the quality and quantity of environmental initiatives in the Borough.
The next event will be held on SATURDAY 5th JULY 2008 at the Shropshire Wildlife Trust in Shrewsbury. Click on the PDF file here to see more information
The event seeks to be inclusive and will provide a range of entertainment for all the family. Adult and childrens activities will help everyone learn about the environment. The event is FREE for all to attend.

>Local farmers provided a delicious barbeque.
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council have been working closely in partnership with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust to promote environmental awareness in the town. The Trust's site is already acting as a showcase for historic building restoration, renewable energy generation, low energy lighting, organic gardening, composting and now recycling.
Interested in running a stall/activity for next year's festival?
If you are local and are benefiting the environment through your business or other activities this could be an excellent promotional event for you.
