Does the Council have a Pest Control Service?
Yes.
 
Does the Pest Control Service arrive at your door in a big van marked 'Pest Control'?
No, in private cars.
 
Do you charge for rats and mice?
Not in domestic premises, only in businesses.
 
Do you charge for treating wasps' nests?
Yes.
 
Do you treat moles?
No.
 
Do you treat animal fleas in a house?
Yes on a chargeable basis.
 
What do I do if I have bed bugs?
Contact the Pest Control Officer at The Guildhall (01743) 281367 who will arrange a treatment free of charge.
 
Can you treat flies in my roof space?
Yes on a chargeable basis.
 
Could you destroy a swarm of bees in my garden?
Only as a last resort. A beekeeper may help rather than Pest Control.
 
Do you treat squirrels in a roof space?
Not in roofs or outside.
 
What do I do about bats in the roof?

What can I do about woodworm?
Contact a wood preservation firm.
 
Do you treat rabbits?
No.
 
If I had bumblebees in my garden making a nest, what should I do?
Just leave them alone.

Yes.
 
Are polecats a pest?
No.
 
Do you treat pigeons in the town?
We treat feral pigeons on council buildings, but will give advice if a problem exists elsewhere.
 
Could Pest Control identify an insect for me?
Yes, and maybe give advice on treatment.
 
Do carpet beetles do any damage?
The larvae feed on natural fibres, i.e. wool, cotton etc. The adult beetle is a vegetarian insect.
 
What should I do if I have seen rats in my garden?
Contact the Pest Control Officer on 281367 who will advise. The Borough Council provides a free service for dealing with rat and mice infestations in domestic premises.
 
Can I get any reduction for insect treatment if I am on Income Support?
Yes, the Council offers relief for Income Support and Housing Benefit claimants.
 
Would the Council give me some poison to treat rats in my garden?
No. A trained Pest Control Technician would, if invited, do it for you free of charge.
 
Does the Council consider wood lice a pest?
Not a pest we would treat, but will advise.
