The Music Hall is owned, managed and funded by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council. It houses a 384-seat auditorium and a variety of function suites. It houses the annual Mayor Making Ceremonies ad the count for most elections. The Music Hall's various activities attract audiences of over 100,000 per annum. In addition to this, the Music Hall manages (in conjunction with the Borough Council's Arts Officer) a programme of arts activities across the Borough. The Film Theatre transferred to the refurbished Old Market Hall in 2003.

The Borough Council is in the process of constructing a new theatre named 'Theatre Severn', which will be a new arts and entertainment facility for Shrewsbury situated at Frankwell Quay. This facility is seen as a much-needed replacement for the Music Hall, which is limited in both terms of access and its ability to generate income. It is envisaged that the new venue will open in early 2009.
