Mayor of Shrewsbury and Atcham - Anne Chebsey

Councillor Anne Chebsey was born in 1955 and brought up in Wellington. She attended Wellington Girls' High School.

After leaving school in 1973 she went to work at the Department of Pathology at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Michael and Anne have three children, Caroline, Abigail and Andrew. Caroline has recently qualified as a doctor and Abigail is in her final year studying Medicine. Andrew is a student at the Sixth Form College. When her children were younger, Anne worked as a childminder for a number of years to enable her to stay at home with her own children.

In 1995 Anne was elected to the Borough Council for the Porthill Ward and gave up the child minding soon after.

She returned to work at the hospital in 2001 and at the present time works part-time in the Department of Microbiology.

Anne has been a school governor for many years. She has served on the governing body of St George’s Junior School and Priory School. She is still a governor at Woodfield Infant School and is responsible for sustainability.
