Tracing your Relatives

The Electoral Service sometimes receives requests from members of the public who are keen to try and trace missing relatives or old friends and neighbours.

We can assist by checking our records to see if that person is on the current Register, but we are not then able to give out the contact details for that person.  If that person is on the Register, then a manual search of the Register must be undertaken on the Guildhall or Shirehall premises by the person making the enquiry.  This can be done Mondays to Thursdays between 8.30am and 5.00pm, or on Fridays between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

If that person is not on the current Register, the following options are available to you:-

• Contact the local Records and Research Library on 01743 - 255350, who have Registers available up until 2001.

• Contact the Editor of the local newspaper (Shropshire Star) on  starmail@shropshirestar.co.uk or ring them on 01952 - 242424.  You can send them a letter for publication asking if anyone knows the whereabouts of the person you are looking for.

• Under certain circumstances, the Salvation Army will help you trace a missing relative.  Further information may be found on their website at www.salvationarmy.org.uk and following their link on "Tracing".
