Recommendation:

That the Minutes of the meetings of the Overview Committee held on 24th January 2008 be confirmed as a correct record and be signed by the Chairman.

(a) To receive any declarations of members’ interests in any matters which are to be considered at this meeting.

The Portfolio Holder for Housing and Councillor Clarke have been invited to attend the meeting to assist Members of the Committee in their consideration of the item.

 

6. AFFORDABLE HOUSING

To consider a draft report by the Assistant Council Manager (Monitoring Officer).

The Portfolio Holder for Housing, Assistant Council Manager (Monitoring Officer) and the Housing Manager have been invited to attend the meeting to assist Members of the Committee in their consideration of the item.

 

7. LOCAL PETITIONS AND CALLS FOR ACTION CONSULTATION

To consider a report of the Assistant Council Manager/Monitoring Officer in respect of the consultation being undertaken into proposals by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) to place a statutory duty on local authorities to respond to local petitions where they have achieved local support.

 

8. CORPORATE AND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PLAN REVIEW (To Follow)

To consider the final report of the Draft Corporate and Performance Improvement Plan Task and Finish Group.

 

9. FUTURE ROLE OF OVERVIEW AND SCRUTINY COMMITTEES

To consider the future roles of Overview and Scrutiny Committees and consider future topics.

  • Provision of Future Flood Defences in Shrewsbury within the future work programme.
  • Exploring opportunities for service development to meet the needs of Young People.
  • A proposal to generate hydro-electric power from the river Severn.

 

10. ANNUAL REPORT

To make initial preparations for the Committee’s Annual Report to Council, including consideration of the content and format of the report.

In previous years, Annual Reports to Council from Overview and Scrutiny Committees have given an account of the Committee’s work during the year and included a short synopsis of the areas of Council policy the Committee has reviewed during the period. In addition, Annual Reports to Council have included comments on what the Committee found to have worked well and what had not, what had been learnt and what the Council needed to do differently and what the Committee recommended to the Council for the future.

Recommended:

That the Chairman, Assistant Council Manager/Town Clerk and Committee Services Officer liaise to prepare the Committee’s Annual Report to Council and submit the draft to the Committee’s next meeting for approval before submission to the Council meeting on 10th April 2008.
