What is the Central Area Partnership?

The Central Area Partnership will be main driver in bringing all the key partners and aspirations of the community together, it is also essential that it maintains a position of inclusivity with the community as a whole and is able to reach agreement and make key decisions.

With Shropshire changing and a new Unitary Authority being formed on 1st April 2009 a new Central Area Partnership will also be launched in July 2008. This will be a strategic partnership of public, private and voluntary organisations formed to deliver real improvements of importance for the people of the area.

Presently each of the five district partnerships across Shropshire have different characteristics and levels of activity.  It is therefore important not to lose active partners during now and the vesting day of the new unitary authority in 2009.  Therefore a more inclusive structure which will strengthen relationships with non-council partners is presently being established.

The county will have 3 distinct areas, North (Oswestry and North Shropshire), South (South Shropshire and Bridgnorth) and Central (Shrewsbury), through which neighbourhood based services will be delivered and new locality working practices established.  This is preferable to a five area approach, based on existing District boundaries, as it will be more streamlined and efficient, whilst retaining a strong sense of place, largely related to parliamentary constituencies. Three new area partnerships will also be established to mirror the new north, central and south areas.

Community Strategy 2002-2012

The Shrewsbury and Atcham Community Strategy is based on a vision for improving the "quality of Life" for everyone who lives, works or even visits the Borough.

The Shrewsbury and Atcham Community Strategy is focused around four key themes:
A lot of work, ideas and views of local people and organisations throughout the Borough have been brought together in this plan. This strategy influences the Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, Voluntary Agencies, Public Authorities, Businesses and Local Residents, it brings us together to improve our local community and our "quality of life".

The activity of the Shrewsbury and Atcham Partnership are very much informed by the work of other partnerships in Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough, all of which link directly into the Shrewsbury and Atcham Partnership. Other Partnerships which are active in the Borough are:

What is the aim of the Community Strategy?

Our combined aim is to improve significantly the quality of life for all who visit, work or live in the Borough of Shrewsbury and Atcham.

To achieve this aim the partnership are focussed on delivering the following key priorities:

Attracting businesses and trade, which will provide employment and ensures a progressive future for the workforce and especially young people.

  • Developing a highly trained and skilled workforce.
  • Stimulating voluntary and community activity which will lead to people understanding the diverse needs of others as well as themselves and also strengthen the community influence on the services they receive.
  • Providing increased numbers of low cost affordable homes and community facilities.
  • Promoting healthy and environmentally sensitive lifestyles.
