Rock against Racism (Love Music Hate Racism)
Saturday 29th April 2006
On 29th April 2006 the Square and Music Hall hosted a Cultural Diversity Day and Rock Against Racism events. Both events were organised by the group Shrewsbury Action Against Racism (SAAR) to send a clear and uncompromising message that the people of Shrewsbury and beyond do not and will not tolerate racism in any way, shape or form.
Prior to the evening Rock Against Racism gig in the Music Hall was a Cultural Diversity Day in the Square. Activities and performances included: Henna body art and African jewellery workshops as well as tribal belly dance and a special performance from jazz fusion trumpeter Danny Gough.
Event organiser Steve Cunningham enthused, "The cultural event was a celebration of the diversity of cultures that flourish in the UK and are continuing to grow in Shrewsbury and Shropshire year on year."
Steve continued "Rock Against Racism was in true essence of the original late 70s movement with local bands supporting bands with a national profile with that famous punk, reggae blend that re-enforce unity"
Bands performing were In Flight Movie, Survival of the Fittest and the Kevs plus international reggae outfit T & La Touche.
