Summer Season Launch
The 2006 Shrewsbury Summer Season brochure is in public distribution following its launch on 2nd May. The 40-page full colour brochure contains details of all the events happening this summer, from 1st June to 3rd September. Highlights include:

An evening of Presentation and Performance is planned to celebrate the first anniversary of Destination Shrewsbury. "Destination Shrewsbury – One Year On" will look at what has been achieved in the last year and what is planned for the next. Live music by Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman will provide guests with a preview of the forthcoming Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
Vacant Units
Each month Destination Shrewsbury carry out a survey of the vacant commercial premises in the town centre. There are currently 40 vacant shop units in the town which is an increase of 1 from March. Approximately 5% of the total available retail space is vacant.

Opening of Sports Village
Sir Trevor Brooking officially opened the Sundorne Sports Village on Thursday 20th April. The event saw many of the facilities in use for the first time with festivals in netball, basketball, squash, football, climbing and cycling.

Cartoon Festival Success!
Over 20th – 23rd April Shrewsbury enjoyed a weekend of workshops, exhibitions, talks and activities as part of the International Cartoon Festival. Visitors from around the UK attended, helped in part by a half page feature in the Daily Telegraph. In addition to the scheduled events people gathered through the day in the sunshine in the Square to have their caricatures done and view the 'Shrewsbury Goes Large' giant cartoons on display.
