Street Trading In Shrewsbury

Street trading includes the selling of goods and services in lay-by’s or other space within the Borough of Shrewsbury and Atcham, whether it be Council owned land or private land to which the public has free access.

It is Council policy to prohibit street trading on all streets within the boundary of the Shrewsbury conservation area.  This is the conservation area that covers the town centre and it’s immediate surroundings.  Street trading within The Square, outside the main entrance to the Quarry Park in St Chad’s Terrace and at the western end of Priory Road is also prohibited without the prior consent of the Council.

Street trading may take place in other areas of the Borough although traders would be required to get the consent of the owner of the land, and Shropshire County Council if trading is to take place on the highway, before conducting business.  It may be that planning permission is also required and if hot food or drink is being sold after 23:00 hours, a Premises Licence will need to be attained.

Traders are advised in the first instance to contact the Council’s Licensing Section on 01743 281376 or e-mail licensing@shrewsbury.gov.uk.
