Procurement - Selling and Buying Goods and Services with SABC

The Council provides many different services to the public, and works with many different organisations in order to help deliver these services.

The Council made net payments of approximately £2,443,000 to suppliers, contractors and one off payments in the last financial year.

We aim to use the Procurement function to assist with improving services to the community, by ensuring that functions and services are carried out in an economic, effective and efficient way.  Our procurement function should support our Corporate Plan and Community Strategy.  Please see our Procurement Strategy.

We aim to:

  • use procurement to achieve the Council's aims as set out in our Corporate Plan and Community Strategy,
  • develop our relationships and knowledge of our suppliers of works, goods and services to achieve savings and efficiency gains,
  • raise awareness of procurement within and outside the authority,
  • improve our contract management procedures.

We aim to work within the remit of the National Procurement Strategy for Local Authorities.  As such we have recently undergone a "Fitness Check" carried out by IDeA (Improvement and Development Agency) and we are in the process implementing their recommendations.

Who we do business with

We publish details of who the Borough Council does business with, the values and a schedule of the types of goods and services we buy.

How to do Business with the Council.

The Council does not operate a select list for contractors, consultants or suppliers.  All tenders are advertised in the Shropshire Star, relevant trade publications and online in our Current Tenders section.

We have a number of ongoing corporate "framework" contracts that have been negotiated by the Property Services team and are used by the entire Council.

Please also see the current Contract Rules.
