The following report details figures surrounding the Race Equalities Scheme.
The Council is committed to race equality, and recognises that Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 supports institutional change, and therefore is an area that is a fundamental part of the council'' policies, functions, service delivery and employment.
Work on the Race Equality Scheme has been co-ordinated by a committed Corporate Equalities Working Group, comprising senior officers from throughout the council, ensuring that the equalities agenda is driven forward in each of our directorates.
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is committed to fulfilling its statutory duties under the legislation and this Race Equality Scheme sets out how it proposes to do this.
The Council will ensure that all Elected Members and employees are aware of the general duty to promote race equality and will take the lead in ensuring its effective implementation.
Comments on the council's Race Equality Scheme will be welcomed, and we positively encourage any feedback, which will further assist the council to meet its new legal obligation.
