Shrewsbury Town Centre Car Parks to get New Surface

Release Date: 26 August 2008

Shrewsbury’s main town centre surface car park at St Julian's Friars is to be closed for re-surfacing and lining on Sundays 7 and 14 September 2008.

The Abbey Foregate Lower Car Park will also be re-surfaced over a two-week period on Monday 1 September 2008 with lining following on Monday 8 September 2008. The Lorry and Coach Park and Upper Car Parking bays will still be available for motorists as normal.

During the period of the re-surfacing there will a temporary reduction in the number of car parking spaces available within Shrewsbury. It is planned to keep disruption to a minimum but there will be sufficient capacity overall in other town centre car parks and Park and Ride to ensure all motorists find a space. Permit holders are permitted on the relevant days to utilise any of the other Borough Surface Car Parks within Shrewsbury Town Centre except Barker Street that is no longer owned by the Council.

Additional car parking staff will be on hand to assist motorists if required.

These works are part of the on-going maintenance to the car parks to keep them in good condition and is part of a phased programme of works. Although the car parks are still in good condition it is prudent to carry out this house keeping exercise to avoid any significant deterioration.

After the re-surfacing has been completed there will be a week without white lines to allow the surface to bed-in and be swept of loose chippings. Again car park staff will be on hand to assist motorists with their parking.
