Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and Shropshire County Council are currently undertaking a review regarding the future level of enforcement undertaken by ParkRight.
The Joint Parking Advisory Group, a group of elected councillors from around Shropshire, have determined that an extensive consultation exercise should be undertaken to help inform the decision making on the future operation of the service.
In November 2006, the Six County, Borough and District Councils across Shropshire entered into a partnership for the operation of on and off street parking enforcement. The current agency agreement is for two years ending on 20 November 2008 and can be extended. Shropshire County Council has agreed to extend the existing agency agreement until 31 March 2009 when the service will transfer to the new Shropshire Council.
With the end of the current agreement there is an opportunity to review the service to ensure it meets stakeholders’ requirements and is ‘fit for purpose’.
The closing date for consultation is Friday, 19 September 2008. The form can be completed on paper or electronically with details available via Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council’s website www.shrewsbury.gov.uk following the links on the ‘Have Your Say’ area.
Councillor Peter Nutting, Leader, Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council said "As Council Leader I have received hundreds of informal comments about ParkRight but now is the chance for the public to really influence the future of the service. Please let us have you opinion of ParkRight, both good and bad, so that we can shape the service to the needs of everyone in the new Shropshire."
County Councillor John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s, Cabinet member for economy and environment and Chair of the Joint Parking Advisory Group, said "I have heard many different views about ParkRight over the last 18 months. I welcome this review and would urge people to let us know their views so that they can help inform the future operation of this difficult, but important service."
