Free Parking Incentive To Shop In Shrewsbury
Release Date:
26 August 2008
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and Destination Shrewsbury have together worked up an offer to attract shoppers and visitors to Shrewsbury at off peak periods. The promotion will run from 1 September to 31 December 2008, when between 2.00 pm and 8.00 pm on every Wednesday car parking will be offered free of charge on the car parks at Frankwell (main one only), Abbey Foregate and St Julian’s Friars. This will cover the late night opening for Christmas shopping and as car parking is free after 8.00 pm will also mean free parking for those wanting an evening out in Shrewsbury’s delightful restaurants and bars.
Councillor David Roberts, Portfolio Holder for Destination Shrewsbury, commented "Destination Shrewsbury will be working with retail businesses on promotions to attract more shoppers and visitors to Shrewsbury in the key trading period leading up to Christmas. We hope to attract new shoppers to Shrewsbury from the wider catchment area and believe that this incentive will help. In a difficult economic climate we want to do all we can to help local businesses".
